No Match for DNA - Rape in Conn

West Hartford Police: DNA Evidence On Rape Victim Gets No Match

October 29, 2010|By KIM VELSEY and CHRISTINE DEMPSEY, kvelsey@courant.com
Evidence taken from a woman who was raped on Fern Street Thursday morning does not match any DNA in the Connecticut database, including DNA from a man wanted in a series of rapes on the East Coast, according to police.
"It was not a match for any other cases in the state," said West Hartford Police Chief James Strillacci.
"That guy is not our guy," he said, referring to a man known as the East Coast rapist, who has committed 17 rapes over 13 years, including several in New Haven and Rhode Island and many in southern coastal states.
The DNA test results were returned two days after the woman was grabbed from behind during an early morning run and raped in the bushes in front of a home on the residential street, police said.
